Since 1977, Porter’s specially trained NICU staff and physicians have been giving the region’s most medically fragile infants the tender loving care they need to survive and thrive. The first in the region, Porter’s NICU provides expert care to about 400 premature infants and those who are born with complex medical problems.

Today, there are more than 10,000 infants, children, teens and adults who got a healthy start in Porter’s NICU.

The babies – and their families – who spend time in Porter’s NICU become part of the health system’s extended family. Investing their emotions, as well as their advanced medical skills into these tiny patients is part of the magic of Porter’s NICU staff.

Visiting Hours – If you are a parent of an infant who is a patient in the NICU, know that you are welcome to be with your child any moment of the day or night. Because the NICU is a busy unit, we ask that extended family call (219) 263.4698 to talk to staff  before visiting.
